Bridges
A dental prosthesis used to replace one or more missing teeth, a bridge provides an effective and long-lasting method for restoring your smile, enabling you to chew and speak properly, and maintaining the shape of your face.
It is permanently cemented into the mouth, providing solid support to the facial tissues such as cheeks and lips and prevents adjacent teeth from shifting. A dental bridge also properly distributes the force in your bite, thus helping to preserve your teeth’s natural function and position. If you have missing teeth, consider dental bridges as a means of restoring your smile.

Composite Resin (White) Fillings
Whether it’s being used to fill a new cavity or replace an old filling, composite resin or white filling is an excellent choice if you want a natural-looking smile untarnished by the grayish-black appearance of silver amalgam.
Made of a mixture of plastic and acrylic materials, composite restorations have a natural and aesthetically pleasing tooth-like appearance. They bond directly to the tooth structure, reducing the possibility of leakage – a common side effect of silver fillings – and restore the tooth to its original function.
Depending on the size of the restoration, composite resin fillings may take only 10 to 15 minutes and require no anaesthetic. It may also be a more suitable alternative to people who are allergic to metal.

Need to restore a broken or worn tooth, hold together a cracked tooth, or restore a tooth with a large decayed area? There’s a good chance you’ll need a dental crown. Sometimes referred to as a cap, a crown is a full-coverage restoration that is permanently cemented onto the surface of a damaged or fractured tooth, restoring it to its original contour and function and preserving the natural bite.
Crowns
A crown is also used to cover a dental implant, seal a tooth from decay, prevent fracturing in a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy, and support the replacement teeth in a bridge. At City Dental Center, we create different types of crowns; based on your needs.
A crown is usually recommended when there is very little tooth structure left to restore, making it difficult for the tooth to retain filling material. However, it also has applications in cosmetic dental work, where it is typically used to cover discoloured teeth and even out irregularities.

Bonding
Looking for a quick and relatively inexpensive way to repair imperfections in your smile? Bonding may be the dental solution for you.
Using the same composite resin as white fillings, cosmetic bonding can enhance the appearance of teeth when used to restore broken or chipped teeth, fill in gaps between teeth, reshape or re-colour teeth. Bonding material sticks better to teeth than silver fillings and is less likely to cause cracks in your teeth since it expands and contracts along with your natural teeth.

Dental Veneers
Want to enhance your smile but don’t want the expense and inconvenience of orthodontics or more complex dental restorations?
Let’s discuss dental veneers. A veneer is a layer of tooth-coloured material, usually porcelain, which is bonded to the facial surface of the tooth. The translucence and texture of veneers closely resemble natural enamel, making them highly effective in improving the appearance of teeth, particularly those that are discoloured, eroded, or have surface abrasions.
Unlike crowns, veneers do not require extensive removal of the tooth structure, making them highly suitable for cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic uses of veneers include aligning irregular teeth – they’re often referred to as “instant braces” – closing gaps between teeth, lengthening or reshaping teeth, and repairing chipped, broken or worn teeth.
Because patients can opt for lighter-coloured porcelain, veneers are also frequently used to brighten smiles, including those stained by tetracycline, fluorosis or large resin fillings.

Dentures
While we encourage our patients to explore all tooth replacement options, dentures today continue to be a popular alternative for people who are missing teeth. Fashioned with acrylic material, a denture is a removable appliance that simulates the appearance of teeth and gum tissues and improves chewing.
With a denture filling in the space of a missing tooth, you won’t have to worry about other teeth shifting and drifting into the gap, which can cause damage to tissues in the mouth.
We may recommend a partial denture if you’re missing one or more teeth in an arch, or a full denture if you’re missing all of your teeth in one or both arches.
While many people are satisfied with traditional dentures, implant supported dentures are a better and permanent way of replacing missing teeth, click on “dental implants” in our services menu to learn more.

Inlays / Onlays
Usually made from either gold or porcelain, inlays and onlays are natural-looking alternatives to silver fillings or to crowns, providing teeth damage is not extensive.
Inlays and onlays are formed to fit and fill most types of cavities and are almost impossible to distinguish from the natural tooth. They are custom designed using a precise replica of your tooth, so only the damaged portion of your tooth needs to be removed.
Requiring only two appointments to complete, inlays and onlays are superior to fillings because they are stronger and more durable, and offer greater protection against tooth sensitivity and decay as they are unlikely to shrink once placed inside the mouth. Compared to crowns, inlays and onlays are less invasive.

Teeth Whitening
Want an instant image boost? Wishing for a more youthful smile? Get your teeth whitened!
It’s amazing how much you can improve your looks – and increase your confidence – by simply lightening your teeth by a few shades. And with modern tooth whitening methods, brightening your smile is safer and easier than ever.
We provide two types of whitening procedures: laser whitening, which we perform in our clinic, and at-home bleaching.
Laser whitening involves the application of a hydrogen peroxide solution followed by exposure to high intensity UV light (sometimes referred to a laser light) to accelerate the process.
To do at-home bleaching you’ll need to come in for a consultation and to have an impression taken so we can create whitening trays customized to your teeth. We will then give you a gel to put into the whitening trays, which you fit onto your teeth for a specified period of time.
If you’re considering having any cosmetic dentistry completed, whitening your teeth is a great start to an amazing finish! Ready to add some dazzle to your smile?

Cleaning
In addition to regularly brushing and flossing your teeth,
you should also have your teeth professionally cleaned
regularly. This helps prevent cavities (dental caries),
gingivitis, and periodontitis and is part of a complete program
of oral hygiene.
At City Dental Center, our dental hygienists are specially
trained to remove tartar (mineralized plaque) that may develop
even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas
that are difficult for a patient to reach on his or her own at
home. They are also trained to recognize potentially problematic
areas that may require x-rays and a closer look by Dr. Berzin.
Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling, root planing and tooth polishing
and debridement if too much tartar has accumulated. This
involves the use of various professional-grade instruments or
devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
We recommend that patients have their teeth professionally
cleaned regulalry.

Periodontal Disease
Our mouths are full of bacteria. These bacteria, along with
mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless
"plaque" on teeth. While brushing and flossing help get rid of
plaque, what is not removed can harden and form "tartar" that
brushing doesn't clean. Only a professional cleaning by a
dentist or dental hygienist can remove tartar.
The longer plaque and tartar remain on teeth, the more harmful
they become. The bacteria cause inflammation of the gums, called
"gingivitis." In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and
can bleed easily. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that
can usually be reversed with daily brushing and flossing, and
regular cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist. This form of
gum disease does not include any loss of bone and tissue that
hold teeth in place.
When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to
"periodontitis" (which means "inflammation around the tooth.")
In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces
(called "pockets") that become infected. The teeth may
eventually become loose and have to be removed.
Currently, no one can cure periodontal disease; City Dental
Center does, however, have a very aggressive attitude in
controlling it. This starts with detailed examination during
your routine check-ups. Our overall goal is to eliminate or stop
the progression of the disease in your mouth and ensure a high
level of health, comfort, function and aesthetics for you on a
daily basis.
As part of our treatment protocol, during a separate periodontal
therapy appointment, our Registered Dental Hygienists will use a
combination of ultrasonic and handheld instruments to remove all
hard and soft deposits from the teeth. This will decrease the
pocket depths surrounding the teeth, enabling you to clean these
areas at home. A maintenance program best suited for your
condition will also be prescribed. This includes an effective
home care program.
